NASA’s Kepler spacecraft has discovered what is yet the closest living twin to our own planet Earth: Kepler-452b in the constallation Cygnus, about 1,400 light years away. What makes this discovery promising is that Kepler-452b orbits its own sun, about the same distance as ours, its sun is about the same size as ours, it has an annual orbit of 385 days in a year, and may very well have an atmosphere of clouds and active volcanoes on its surface! Exciting times to be living in folks! http://news.yahoo.com/scientists-closest-thing-yet-earth-sun-twin-system-173052584.html
Based upon research from the 2013 X-51A Waverider tests, a new hypersonic U.S. plane is planned for flight in 2023 at speeds five times the speed of sound! DARPA, the U.S. Defense Research Program also is continuing on its XS-1 experimental space plane program to launch satellites into space.
A grad student from the UK’s Royal College of Art, has devised a synthetic leaf that uses photosynthesis to create oxygen as real plants do on earth. The invention may spark a new hope for extended human space flight and colonization, as a bio synthetic source of oxygen can now be carried and created artificially in space! http://rt.com/usa/176860-synthetic-biological-leaf-created/
Astronomers have discovered that the Milky Way Galaxy is lighter than previously thought. Using a new way of calculation, the Royal Astronomical Society has revised the Milky Way to be approximately half of what it was previously thought, putting into consideration, the mass of ‘dark matter’. http://rt.com/news/176808-milky-way-lighter-study/
A planet the size of Earth, with a composition similar to diamond has been discovered by scientists some 900 light years away in the constellation Aquarius! Another reason for our civilization to continue our quest further into deep space. =) http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/26/earth-sized-diamond/
Italian coffee giant Lavazza has teamed up with Agrotec to come up with the first ‘fresh brewed’ coffee machine for the International Space Station. Astronomers have discovered a new ‘super’ earth, a rocky planet about twice the size of our own home planet, some 560 light years away in the constallation Draco. The rocky planet coined Kepler 10c orbits its parent star Kepler-10 and may be a candidate for biologic life! http://news.yahoo.com/astronomers-discover-type-rocky-planet-much-bigger-earth-222511780.html
Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic has been approved for flights by the Federal Aviation Administration in the U.S. Virgin Galactic plans to have maiden flights of its Space Ship Two to the edge of space for its pre-paid space tourists by end of 2014! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-27628476
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has announced the Dragon V2, the first commercial manned reusable spacecraft. Designed to land vertically back down to Earth, the 7 seater spaceship can be refueled and ready to go back into space the same day!
